Install Duplicati in a Freenas Jail

GitHub Logo

Duplicati is one of the best backup programs out there

With the demise of Crashplan, and the fact that Crashplan has never been easy to run on freenas, many are looking for alternatives. Recently I switched to Duplicati as a backup program, the large number of cloud backup services it runs with makes it a great choice. Duplicati also has a very short list of requirments… Mono being that requirement

So how do we run Duplicati in a FreeNAS jail.

First setup a new Jail Then install Mono

pkg install mono

Download duplicati, unzip it elsewhere and use sftp to upload the application directory to /opt/Duplicati

Now add a startup script in in rc.local

nano /etc/rc.local

/usr/local/bin/mono /opt/uplicati/Duplicati.Server.exe --webservice-port=8200 --webservice-interface=any --webservice-password=secret_password &

Change the permissions of rc.local

chmod 755 /etc/rc.local

Add the shares you with to backup as read only to the jail

From any computer you can log into Duplicati from http://jail-ip-address:8200
